The National Circus Project Amazed and Astonished at the Montauk Library!

On Friday, July 24th the Montauk Library had the National Circus Project come and perform for children and families.  Mikey and Lou hosted the show and made the audience members laugh and gasp in amazement at what they could do!

The hosts had a lot of fun with the audience, joking around and explaining to them about the tricks they were doing. They made difficult tricks look effortless and they had everyone laughing throughout the show.

Here, much to Lou's dismay (and the audience's delight), Mikey is mimicking her!

There was juggling...

and plate spinning! Very impressive!

Even some of the children in the audience got involved in the show. They all did a wonderful job spinning plates and tossing them to each other!  Some also tossed pins to Mikey while he was balancing! Montauk kids are so talented!

Mikey and Lou also did crazy tricks and feats involving balance, skill...

and strength (yes, Lou is balancing a table on her chin)!!!

All in all, Mikey and Lou left the Montauk Library audience in awe! Thanks to the National Circus Project for a wonderful performance!

Angelina Ballerina Author Katharine Holabird Visits the Montauk Library

On Saturday, July 11th, beloved children's author Katharine Holabird visited the Montauk Library to read to young patrons and sign copies of her popular books.  Katharine Holabird is the author of the immensely popular Angelina Ballerina Series.  Ms. Holabird was very eager to meet the children and share her writing with them and had some special surprises up her sleeve!

First, Ms. Holabird introduced young readers to her fantastic new children's book Twinkle, and donated a signed copy to the library! Interested in reserving it for your child? Click here.

After reading her newest book, Ms. Holabird read the original Angelina Ballerina book to the captive audience and was assisted by her lovely niece Rachel, who danced and acted out the story as Angelina Ballerina herself, complete with mouse ears, a tail and a tutu!

Finally, the author led the children through an impromptu dance class, Angelina Ballerina style.  They did plies, jumps, twirls just like her character Angelina did in the book.

Katharine Holabird spoke with parents and children individually afterwards, signed books and took photos. It was a lovely afternoon for all!

Ms. Holabird's books are available for borrowing in the children's room and available for reserve.
Copies of her Angelina Ballerina books and of her latest book Twinkle are available for purchase while supplies last at the A Tale of Two Sisters shop in Montauk.

Welcome to the Montauk Library Children's Room Blog!

Welcome to the Montauk Library Children's Room's new blog!  My name is Miss Jackie and I am the new children's librarian here at the library! I just started here and am so excited to be a part of the library community.  I hope this blog will inform parents and their children about the library, children's programs, new books and much more!

First, I want to tell you about the exciting children's programs happening this July at the library!  We already had an author visit from Angelina Ballerina writer Katharine Holabird, and now we are preparing for the National Circus Project.  They will be at the library on Friday, July 24th at 5:00 pm and will entertain and astonish their audience! This event is free and open to all children and parents.

Another fun, fantastic program is coming your way on July 30th at 2:00 pm when Steve Petra and PetraPuppets visit and put on their show Calling All Heroes!  Grab your cape and fly to the library to see this show starring Ultra Duck, Eric the Super Sheep, the villainous Gorgonzilla and his sidekick the Almost Invisible Cow.  Volunteers from the audience will help defeat the villains and learn the secret of the Hero Scope!  This event is also free and open to all who wish to attend - especially superheros!

We also have our Summer Reading Program going on! Children ages birth to 12 years old and teens ages 13-18 can come in and sign up.  Children will record all of the books they read and whether or not they liked what they read and then report to me.  For every time they report, they get to pick a prize or a free book.  At the end of the program they get a certificate of participation and will also have their name on the wall in the children's room for the summer! Sign up is ongoing, so stop by today! Hope to see everyone soon!
